Arbutus unedo—Strawberry Tree Seeds

$4.50
sold out

These seeds are from my Arbutus unedo trees. Since this is a selection of a species that's usually propagated by cuttings the seeds are likely to revert to the species. This just really means that there will be some height variation. The color of the blooms will vary too. Mine are white with a flush of pink but they seedlings from these seeds may have darker pink blooms as well.

The dwarf version only grows to about 8' but mine have grown to about 12'. They're about 12' wide and multi-trunked. In order to get the tree shape that I like, I've had to prune these quite a bit. They grow quickly though and are fun to shape. As they age, they bark comes more attractive too. It has a reddish color to it and it looks kind of shredded.

What I like most about them though is that I live on a city lot and this is the tree that offers privacy between my front window and the front sidewalk. The blooms attract hummingbirds galore and a year later the trees are covered with red, yellow, and orange berries. They're also immune to black spot so that's a win-win as well.

Germination instructions will be included with your seeds. These require some experience and patience to germinate and grow. (about 30 seeds)

Basic Plant Facts:
Arbutus unedo 'Oktoberfest'
Grows 8' or more
Likes sun to part shade
USDA zones: 7-9
